Homonym discovery and management (under development)
Homonyms are names of different taxa that are spelled the same. When names are treated as metadata, homonyms risk incorrectly bringing together information on different species. The homonyms need to be disambiguated. The approach in GNA is to identify all possible homonymic - both within the jursidiction of a code or between codes (some call these hemi-homonyms), use these to uncover any names of subgeneric taxa that are associated with homonyms, and use taxonomic treatments and user input to assign these to the appropriate genus.å
